Review by hotel critic
Review of Gate Lodge - A Disappointing ExperienceNestled just 0.9 km from the heart of Kilkenny, the promise of convenience and charm lured my friends and me to Gate Lodge this Easter. Regrettably, what awaited us upon arrival was a stark contrast to our expectations. The initial excitement quickly faded when we discovered that our pre-booked twin room had somehow morphed into a shabby double at a different location, leaving us in a bind without any reception to address our concerns. Upon entering the new accommodation, I was met with frustration rather than pleasure-a chilly atmosphere complemented by a shower that offered nothing but ice-cold water. My travel companion had to sit awkwardly on the toilet due to impractical positioning, and our wish for a cozy getaway turned into a quest for basic amenities. We ended up cutting our losses and seeking refuge elsewhere instead of enduring a night in such dismal conditions. At the end of the day, one might easily overlook these issues in favor of the location, but alas, without warmth, cleanliness, and proper service, the value of being just a stone's throw from Kilkenny was entirely lost. My advice to fellow travelers is a firm one: skip Gate Lodge and seek accommodation that truly reflects the historic charm of this lovely city.
